TWO women were carjacked at knifepoint in a busy residential street.

The attack happened in Endlebury Road, Chingford, at around 8.20pm on Saturday (September 3).

The 29-year-old driver stopped outside her friend’s house to pick her up for a night out in Chingford Mount.

But as they both sat in the silver Mercedes, a man brandishing a knife opened the door and ordered them out of the car.

The friend, 29, who did not want to be named, said: "I got in the car and we were there for about a minute talking when I saw this figure approach the car.

"At first I thought it was someone we knew but then he opened the door and held out this knife. "He said very calmly 'get out of the car' so my friend got out.

"He climbed in and it took a moment to sink in that I was sitting there next him. I was just in shock. But after a few seconds I got out and he drove off really fast."

Police are now appealing for witnesses.

The woman, who works in a health clinic, added: "Endlebury Road has always been considered quite a nice road and it wasn't even that late at night. You just don't expect things like that to happen round here.

"We are both quite shaken up, but I'm glad I never looked directly in his face or I'd probably be having nightmares about it.

"We feel lucky we weren't hurt but it was upsetting. My friend had her bag in the car with her keys, phone and iPod. She also had a letter with her address so she's had to change all the locks.”

She added: "We hope by going public on this we can warn other people to be vigilant and always lock your doors, even if you're only stopping for a minute.”

The suspect is described as black, 5ft 6ins and thought to be aged in his 30s.

He was wearing a blck hooded top and dark blue jeans. He drove off in the direction of Simmons Lane. Anyone with information is asked to contact Waltham Forest Police on 020 3276 0945.

To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
