THE council is likely to terminate its partnership with Waltham Forest Council to deliver adult social services in both boroughs.

The cabinet is recommended to decide at a meeting tonight to withdraw from its nine-year partnership with the neighbouring borough to provide services for adults with learning disabilities, effective from September 30.

A report written by Sheenagh Burgess, head of the Learning Disability Partnership, states that the plans to disband were made because both councils are working in increasingly different ways and must both make financial cuts this year.

Redbridge Council is likely instead to sign a new agreement with the North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT) to provide services for Redbridge only.

If the proposals are approved, it will transfer £15.5 million of its share of the partnership’s £42m budget into its new agreement with the NELFT, with its remaning £2.2 million to be absorbed into the adult social services budget.

The NELFT would also manage the council’s Community Team, consisting of social workers, nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists and speech and language therapists among others.

The team is responsible for the assessment of, care planning for and purchasing for adults with learning disabilities.
