A MAN who was shot at an ice cream parlour in High Road, Woodford Green, remains in a critical condition in hospital this morning, but police say his condition has stabilised.

Officers from the Met’s gun crime unit, Operation Trident, are investigating the shooting which took place at the Cakes and Shakes ice cream parlour in the High Road on Monday afternoon.

A police checkpoint was in operation opposite Queen Mary’s Gate in South Woodford yesterday evening, with officers speaking to several motorists.

But a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said the checkpoint was part of Operation Reclaim, a London wide initiative to crack down on uninsured drivers, and not connected with the shooting.

She said: "On November 15 between 12pm and 12am, Operation Reclaim covered 7 locations on the Borough of Redbridge including Queen Mary's Gate.

"Officers from Redbridge provided a mobile patrol at the seven locations at various times.

"Redbridge police made two arrests and seized seven cars during this operation."

Police have not named the victim of Monday's shooting, and no arrests have yet been made in connection with the incident.
