THE devastated family of a dad-of-one who was killed by a lorry as he cycled to work have launched an appeal for witnesses.

Peter McGreal, 44, of St Johns Road in Walthamstow, was hit as he rode along Pritchard's Road in Bethnal Green at 8.30am on a Tuesday morning back in June.

He died of his multiple injuries four days later, leaving behind a devastated partner and two-year-old daughter.

The yellow 'tipper' vehicle which crashed into him did not stop at the scene but was traced by police later in the day.

A 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and is on police bail until December.

Now lawyers acting on behalf of his partner, Amanda Baker, are asking for witnesses to come forward with information to help them get a clear picture of what happened – even if they have already spoken to police.

Michelle Sutton, an associate with Fentons Solicitors, said: “It was rush hour and it always gets busy around the area at that time, so we know there must be several people who saw what happened.

“If we are to secure the future care of the couple’s daughter, we urgently need witnesses to come forward.

“We are urging anyone who might have helpful information about the incident – no matter how small or insignificant they think it might be – to get in touch.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was driving or walking in Pritchard’s Road and Hackney Road that morning, and who might have seen the events immediately leading up to the incident.“

She added: “Peter’s family are still suffering the aftermath of losing their loved one.

“We are hoping people will come forward and help us to secure the help they need right now and also in the future.”

Police are also still appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened on June 21. They are asked to contact the Road Death Investigation Unit witness line on 020 8597 4874.

Witnesses can contact Ms Baker's lawyer Michelle Sutton at Fentons Solicitors on 0161 238 6408 or via e-mail at michelle.sutton@fentons.co.uk.

Mr McGreal worked as a graphic designer at the London Metropolitan University’s City Campus in Whitechapel.
