A TOTAL of 58 people have been killed on Waltham Forest’s roads in the past decade.

Maps showing the location of all fatal accidents involving drivers, pedestrians and cyclists since 1999 have been created by the Department of Transport.

The most dangerous road is Lea Bridge Road, a major route from Leytonstone through Walthamstow and Leyton to Hackney, which had 10 fatal accidents.

Eight people died after crashes in Forest Road in Walthamstow, with three deaths at the junction with Hoe Street, also known as the Bell junction.

These include Raja ‘Bobby’ Khan, who died when his car clipped a kerb and ploughed into traffic lights.

Florin Moisa, 27, was killed when the BMW he was travelling in crashed into the Bell pub, and Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini was lucky to escape with his life after his motorbike was involved in a collision near Charlie Brown’s roundabout.

The A1009 through Highams Park and Chingford, which incoporates Chingford Lane, Hatch Lane, New Road and Hall Lane, was by far the most dangerous road in the E4 postcode with nine deaths.

Mo Watts was killed when his motocycle was in collision with a van in Hatch Lane, prompting calls for improved safety measures.

David Sinclair, 55, from Barking, was later banned from driving for a year after admitting driving carelessly before the crash.

There were nine fatalities on the Waltham Forest stretch of the A406 North Circular, but none on the borough’s stretch of the A12.
