MORE council homes in Woodford and Wanstead will get a much needed upgrade thanks to a boost in government funding.

An extra 150 properties across Redford will benefit from £1million in early support from the Decent Homes programme.

This means that more than 1,100 homes will get improvements by April 2012.

Work will include refurbishment and replacement of kitchens, bathrooms and central heating systems, and rewiring.

The Housing and Communities Agency has given Redbridge Council the opportunity to bring forward funding allocated for next year into this year’s programme.

Cabinet agreed to the increased funding at its meeting on Tuesday, December 6.

Redbridge has been awarded a total of £23.6million to bring properties up to the Decent Homes standard by 2014.
