VOLUNTEERS are invited to help promote composting and reduce the amount of food waste that is tipped in to landfill sites.
Those interested in being part of Essex County Council’s Waste Busters Scheme are invited to attend a free training session in Colchester on December 11.
Volunteers will then be encouraged to help people in their communities reduce the amount of food waste they throw out by promoting composting at local shows and fairs, talking to community groups about meal planning and portion sizes and using any other suitable skills and experience they may have to spread the message.
It is estimated by the government that one third of the food waste that is thrown out could be composted.
To find out more or to book a place on the scheme contact the council’s volunteer coordinator, Louise Phillips, on 07717 867166 or louise.phillips@essex.gov.uk.
