A MAN had his jaw broken when a gang punched and beat him with a baseball bat.
It happened at around 4.40pm yesterday (Monday December 19) in Capworth Street, Leyton.
Police say the 24-year-old victim was in his parked car when a group of men approached and began shouting abuse at him.
He claims that when he challenged the group they began attacking him, and were then joined by a second gang who also began hitting him.
A member of the public called police and the men ran off in the direction of the Beaumont Estate.
The man was rushed to hospital but his injuries are not life-threatening. He was also found to have suffered a smashed cheek bone.
Police have denied rumours of a stabbing and say they do not believe the attack was an attempted carjacking.
Just over a year ago, on November 30 2010, 33-year-old Sylvester Senyah was stabbed to death in the same street and the area is known for gang activity.
