Queen to start Diamond Jubilee tour with visit to Walthamstow

BUCKINGHAM Palace has announced that the Queen will start her Diamond Jubilee celebrations with a visit to Walthamstow.

The Queen is scheduled to have lunch at Waltham Forest Town Hall, in Forest Road, Walthamstow, on March 29. She will then go on to visit Harrow and Redbridge on the same day.

The visit is the first stop on the Queen’s tour around the UK which will celebrate her 60 years on the throne. Other members of the royal family are also touring around the Commonwealth to celebrate the milestone.

I photographed Phil and Liz from the roof of the Hackney Empire in 1977 during the Silver Jubilee. Don't suppose I'll be able to get that good a vantage point this time.

I wonder if they will visit Queen's Road to view all the litter thrown onto the railway embankment, along Coppermill Lane to the marshes to admire all the bottles and cans along the hedgerows and the shanty town of boats on the Lea at Springfield Marina. Thought not!

@myopinioncounts I know, it's horrible. I've reported it to Network Rail and had a call back saying they're sorting the Queens Rd section (at some point...). Might be worth trying the same with the other areas you mentioned?

I realise that Network Rail will have to deal with the Queens Road mess as it would be considered too dangerous for those doing Community Service to be given the job. My outrage is directed at the mindless, moronic scumbags who throw the litter over the fence in the first place. But surely the Community Service group could be used to clear the litter from along the Coppermill Lane section?

Maybe that's what the new lights on Cllr Ali's house(s) are all about. A tribute to our monarch. Her mum was an East Ender at heart etc. etc.
