MOSQUE leaders are to be honoured by the Prince of Wales.
The Noor Ul Islam Trust will be awarded a medal for helping to raise £350,000 for the victims of the 2010 Pakistan flood.
The centre of worship in High Road, Leyton, was one of many mosques around the country which answered Prince Charles' calls to raise much-needed money for the victims of the tragedy.
They will be presented with the medal - produced by the Queen’s mint makers - in a special ceremony in the House of Commons on Wednesday, February 8, by Prince Charles’ senior representative John O’Brien.
Yusuf Hansa, chairman of the mosque, said: “We could not ignore the disaster that happened in Pakistan in 2010. Money was urgently raised and sent to Pakistan using reputable charity agencies and NGOs. The community rallied regardless of their own national background.
“A member of staff from Noor Ul Islam went to Pakistan himself to witness the relief work being carried out and get involved in helping himself, arranging for much needed food and clean drinking water.”
