SCHOOLGIRLS will try out an Olympic rowing course before athletes do.
Nine pupils at Connaught School for Girls in Leytonstone are taking part in the EDF Community Rowing Challenge, which will see them compete at the Eton Dorney Rowing Centre in Windsor.
The rowers will get training advice from Paralympic gold medallist rower Tom Aggar and British silver medallist rower Katherine Grainger.
They will join 31 other teenagers from schools in Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Redbridge and Havering to compete to win the challenge later this year.
The girls’ coach, Steve Salter, said they are extremely excited about the competition and are looking forward to their first water training session.
The challenge aims to encourage young people across east London to get involved in sport and stay healthy and active, as well as learning the value of teamwork and self-discipline.
