CHINGFORD: First meeting of residents association announced

A RESIDENTS association established to oppose a plan to build 294 homes on the site of Walthamstow Stadium has set a date for its first meeting.

The Walthamstow Stadium Community Association will hold its first gathering on Tuesday, February 28 at Rushcroft School in Chingford.

Developer London & Quadrant hopes to erect a housing development on the historic former dog track, but there is a rival bid from millionaire Bob Morton which would keep the track and provide around 500 jobs.

However the association is against any development on the site at the moment and was set up to present an organised opposition to L & Q, encompassing many different concerns.

These range from people with fears of overdevelopment, traffic congestion and those who wish to see the dog track return.

A representative from Planning Aid for London, a charity which offers free planning advice, has been invited to speak at the meeting in Rushcroft Road between 7.30pm and 9.30pm.

It will also be a chance to hear updates on local news: Arsenal's consultant architect will also be on hand to give more details on the club's plan for Hale End Sports Field, where they want to modernise the youth club facilities.

Police will also give a report on local crime and a local councillor will speak about street parties for the Queen's Jubilee celebrations.

The association is hoping to recruit a chairperson, treasurer and secretary. To apply for one of these positions please email stow.residents@yahoo.com.
