FRIENDS who grew up together are ready and set to run the London Marathon side by side for charity.

Sarah Mills and Nicola Cockerell, who have been friends since they were 13, have been training for months to prepare themselves for the 26.2-mile endurance test.

Mrs Mills, 34, of Harold Road, was inspired to raise £1,700 for Age UK because her mother suffers from dementia.

Mrs Cockerell, 33, of Woodview Avenue, has nearly reached her target of £1,700 for the Roy Castle Lung Foundation, which she hopes to raise extra cash for after a good friend recently died of lung cancer.

Mrs Mills said: “It’s brilliant to be doing this together, I couldn’t do it without her. It’s been lovely to have each other.”

Mrs Cockerell added: “It’s fantastic fun even when it’s a tough four-hour run because we end up chatting most of the way.”

The pair are in the last stages of preparation for the race on April 22.
