A MAN has been charged with stealing a car following a high-speed police chase.

Officers from Chapel End Safer Neighbourhoods Team were carrying out routine patrols when a driver parked outside Sir George Monoux College in Chingford Road, Walthamstow, suddenly drove off at speed.

Police pursued him to Hoe Street and past Walthamstow Central until the driver jumped out of his vehicle in Yunus Khan Close and ran off.

A man matching his description was then arrested in Rosebank Road near the Bakers Arms junction. The car was found to have been stolen in Hertfordshire.

It happened on Friday March 23 at around 4.30pm.

Faraz Choudery, 19, of Farmilo Road, Walthamstow, is accused of stealing the car, driving without a licence and insurance, and also driving without due care and attention.

He has been bailed to appear at Thames Magistrates Court tomorrow (Wednesday April 4).
