RUNNERS raised thousands of pounds for charity in memory of a popular Chingford man.

The KNI Foundation was set up following the death of Kenny Ibrahim in a road accident in Thailand in 2009.

Kenny's brother and charity boss, Dean Ibrahim, is confident of reaching the fundraising target of £5,000 following the half-marathon across Waltham Forest on Sunday (April 1).

Dean said: "It was absolutely fantastic, it was just amazing. I'm overwhelmed really. I'm on a bit of a high because it went so well.

"I felt like Kenny was really shining down on us on the day. His presence was felt and I'm really proud because he would have loved this event."

The course saw participants run through Chingford, Walthamstow and Leyton and back to Chingford Plain.

Based in Chingford Mount Road, the KNI Foundation helps vulnerable young people and provides a bereavement counselling service, which was on the verge of closure due to a lack of funding.

"It would be silly to shut that service down. We're helping a lot of people aged eight to 16 who aren't attending school properly and at risk of dropping out because of a personal tragedy they have suffered," Dean added.
