RAPPING disciples and a "streetwise Jesus" are set to appear in a contemporary twist on the Easter story.

A Christian group will bring the play 'This Thing Called Jesus' back to Walthamstow after it was performed performed across the UK and in California in the last ten years.

Starring former gang members in some of the starring roles, The Potters House Walthamstow Church, in Folkestone Road, has brought the story of Jesus's death and rebirth up to date with modern language, comedy and tragedy.

Youth pastor David Darkwah said: "The Easter message is sometimes hard for people to understand and relate to but by doing this hopefully people can identify with it.

"We have people who have changed their lives for the better and now want to give something back to the community."

The play will be held for free on Saturday and Sunday, (April 7/8) at 2pm at the Arcade site in Hoe Street, Walthamstow.
