A COMPANY director says he has signed a deal with the council to run a 2,000-capacity Olympic Games campsite at Ive Farm in Leyton.

The Guardian revealed earlier this year how the London Camping Company (LCC) was taking bookings for pitches at Ive Farm and Sir George Monoux College in Walthamstow for during the Games, despite no contract being signed.

The council has never publicly commented on the plans and is yet to make any announcement about the deal for its land at Ive Farm, which is a derelict sports site.

But LCC head Noel Doyle said: "We signed the contract last week I believe but we're still in negotiations about the college.

"We will be applying for an alcohol licence to serve drinks until about 11pm, but no later than the pub nearby and there's no plans for events or live music”.

Mr Doyle said there were no plans for alcohol sales at the college.

Meanwhile a council meeting will be held on Tuesday April 17 to decide whether to grant an alcohol licence for a 5,000-capacity Olympic campsite at Low Hall Sports Ground in Walthamstow.

Neighbours fear it will cause noise and widespread disruption, but Denis Geary, who will run the site with his firm Big Events Company, said it will benefit residents and be family-friendly.

The council is leasing land for campsites to pay the estimated £1.5million bill for its 'Big 6' series of events to celebrate the Olympics.
