POLICE have issued a warning that children could be offered a class A drug disguised as sweets.
Safer schools officer Peter Westall told Highams Park School in Handsworth Avenue, Highams Park, that pupils could be exposed to highly addictive crystal meth which smells like strawberry, according to its website.
However it appears so-called "strawberry quick" could just be an urban myth which has been circulated on the internet.
Forums and websites in America suggest that while police have come across coloured crystal meth, there is no evidence of dangerous drugs are being made to appear like sweets in order to appeal to children.
Waltham Forest Police were unable to comment about the warning today.
The entry on the school's website acknowledges that some believe strawberry meth is a hoax, but adds: "The safest course of action is for parents to alert their children to the dangers of accepting any sweets that they are not totally sure come from a reliable and reputable source."
