PARENTS kick-started the fundraising effort towards a better playground for their children today (Thursday).

A family fun day at the Love Lane park in Ongar raised about £1,400 that the Ongar Mums group wants to spend on more equipment for children there to mark the Olympics.

Mother-of-three Debra Coates-Reynolds, 41, of Longfields, who helped organise the day, said: “It was amazing. Considering the weather, the turn-out was really good.

“We had mums meeting other mums they hadn’t seen for a while.

“I think some of the local people didn’t know where the park was, so it’s put it on the map for them, which is great.

“Even though it's Ongar Mums, we couldn't have done it without the dads, because they looked after the children.”

She said the next step for the group would be to look into extra funding for play equipment with the help of Ongar Town Council.
