A WOMAN celebrated her 104th birthday last week.

Rose Rose is the oldest resident in The Spinney Care Home in Chingford, and she was joined by her nearest and dearest on Tuesday, April 24, to mark the fourth year after passing her centenary.

The keen flower arranger blew out her candles with other residents in the home in Forest View as well as her nephew, John Walker.

Home manager Juliette Oates said everyone had a splendid time singing along to old piano numbers including ‘Daisy Daisy’.

“It was a wonderful day, Rose had a great time and we all got a bit exhausted from all the fun we had,” added Ms Oates.

“She got lots and lots of flowers from people and she was delighted.”

Rose was born in Bromley Road, Walthamstow, in 1908, and was the youngest of six children.

After marrying Will White in 1932 Rose moved to Peckham where she lived until her husband’s death in 1969, at which time she moved back to Walthamstow via Charlton, marrying her school sweetheart Douglas Rose.

After Douglas passed away Rose came to the care home, where she has been a hit with the residents for eight years now.

Ms Oates said: ““She’s a popular figure with the staff and residents alike. She has a great sense of humour and she’s always been a very positive person, always looking on the bright side.

“We love having her here.”

Her nephew Mr Walker, 64, added: "She's a great woman, she loves to be involved in family matters and is very kind and loving."
