A MAN left fighting for his life in hospital after an attack is now in a stable condition.

The 26-year-old was critical after suffering serious head injuries when he was assaulted in Palmerston Road, Walthamstow, at around 11.15pm on Sunday, May 13.

Officers were called to the scene by a passer-by who saw the man lying in the street.

Michael Sammut, 28, of Palmerston Road, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm in connection with the attack.

He was arrested on Tuesday (May 14) and has been remanded in custody.
