A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of owning a dangerous dog which viciously attacked another pet in a park.

The 29-year-old, from the Walthamstow area, is accused of owning the Pitbull-like animal which savaged a Jack Russell in Walthamstow's Lloyd Park at around 1.30pm on Saturday (May 19).

The 10-year-old, called Sparky, suffered serious neck injuries and is currently undergoing treatment by a vet in Wanstead.

A Met spokeswoman said the arrested man was suspected of owning "a dog dangerously out of control in a public place".

He has been released on bail until next month, but his pet has been seized by the force's dog unit in the meantime.

The Guardian understands that a policeman made the arrest while on patrol in Lloyd Park.

He spotted the man who appeared to match the description given by witnesses to the dog attack.
