SCHOOL pupils across Waltham Forest have been getting in early their celebrations for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee with dozens of playground parties.
Thousands of residents are expected to take part in street parties in the next few days but teachers have also been getting into the spirit with themed lessons and activities ahead of the extended Bank Holiday weekend.
At Sybourn Primary school in Perth Road, Leyton, children dressed up in red, white and blue designed their own crowns and had their faces painted at a party yesterday (Thursday May 31).
Co-organiser and school foundation stage co-ordinator Rhonda Scott said: "More than 170 children from our nursery and reception took part, and about 100 parents came along as well.
"It was a really good occasion seeing families from all different cultures celebrating the event and Britain."
Meanwhile pupils from Willow Brook and Riverley primary schools took to Marsh Lane in Leyton for a giant party, while tots at Busy Bees Nursery in New Road, Chingford enjoyed some Jubilee treats and a bouncy castle.
Many more schools will be holding events today including Thorpe Hall Primary in Walthamstow and Larkswood Primary in Chingford.
