REDBRIDGE Council has fined more than 700 drivers across the borough for wrongly parking in loading bays over the last six months.

The figures released by the council, show that 765 drivers were fined.

Drivers are being warned that if they park in loading bays they can expect to receive a £120 fine.

The council was alerted by a member of the public about drivers misusing the parking bays in Barkingside High Street and has since issued 49 Penalty Charge Notices to drivers there.

Loading bays are provided so businesses can receive deliveries conveniently and should not be used for a quick trip to the shops.

Blue badge holders are also being warned that they are not exempt from the fine and should not park in loading bays either.

The £120 fine is reduced to £60 if paid within two weeks.

Council leader, Cllr Keith Prince, said: "We aren't out to make money. If people park in loading bays it causes local businesses all kinds of problems."
