THE Stoneydown Park Folk Festival in Walthamstow is one of the highlights of the coming week in the world of local music.

Taking place on Sunday (June 24) from 2pm until 6pm, it features a wide variety of music, stalls, fun stuff for kids and refreshments.

Those playing include established acts such as Steve White and the Protest Family, newer performers like The Clean Peas, and singer-songwriters such as Will O'Donoghue.

The event, which is normally held at Lloyd Park but has been relocated for a second year while refurbishment works are completed, is free to attend.

It's co-ogranised by Walthamstow Folk Club and the Friends of Stoneydown Park group.

Meanwhile in Essex, The Willows Band, who mix modern roots music with a more traditional sound, headline Loughton Folk Club this Thursday (June 21).

Support comes from multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter Laurie McNamee.

Entrance to the show, at the Loughton Club building in Station Road, is £5. Doors at 8pm.

Rockabilly band The Obscuritones take to the stage at Walthamstow Cricket Club this Friday (June 22).

They play a range of tunes including rarities from the fifties and sixties.

Support is provided by DJ Lanky Mick, who'll be spinning some records from 8.30pm.

There's no charge for admission but donations welcome.

The gig, at the venue in Greenway Avenue, is organised by the 17 Blues Club.

If blues is your thing check out the superb Battered Saucepan band at Ye Olde Rose and Crown Theatre pub in Hoe Street, Walthamstow, on Monday (June 25).

It's free and the songs start at 8.30pm.

Alternatively, Waltham Abbey Folk Club in Brooker Road has a singaround night on Monday (June 25). It costs £1.50p and begins at 8.30pm.

Mollys Daggers (yes, without the apostrophe) play the Birkbeck Tavern in Langthorne Road, Leytonstone, this Saturday night (June 23).

They play 21st century British blues.

Also providing the tuneage is 12-string psych folk master Simon Onions.

The gig is organised by promoters What's Cookin' and is therefore free, although donations to the acts welcome.

Doors open at 8.30pm.

The venue and What's Cookin' hosts the Palace of Justice band for a further show next Wednesday (June 27).

It starts at 8.30pm.
