THE elderly passenger of a Renault Clio which ploughed into the front of a shop window last month has died.

The 76-year-old woman has been named as Mabel Lall from Roding Lane North, Woodford Green.

Following the crash into Rupert's Upholstery, in Victoria Road, South Woodford, on May 23, she was taken to the Royal London Hospital and was rushed straight into theatre suffering from internal bleeding.

Sadly, Mrs Lall did not make a full recovery and passed away on June 7.

The driver of the car, believed to be her husband, was also taken to the Royal London Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Chris Foster, owner of Rupert's Upholstery, said: "There's nothing really I can say which will console the family. My thoughts go out to them."

A post mortem at East Ham Mortuary took place on June 12 and gave cause of death as pulmonary oedema caused by multiple injuries, further details await.

An inquest was opened and adjourned at Walthamstow Coroner's Court on June 13.

It is understood the driver lost control of the vehicle and ploughed straight into the shop front at 1.30pm.

The road remained closed until 8.40pm while the shop and the flat above the shop were made structurally sound.

Mr Foster has no idea when his business will be open again, but vows he will reopen.

No arrests have been made and officers from the Met's Road Death Investigation Unit continue to investigate the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or the moments leading up to it, should call the unit on 0208 597 4874.
