DOZENS of firefighters and police officers rushed to the scene of what they thought was a chemical spill last weekend.
They responded to reports of a blue liquid leaking from a metal drum dumped in a Chingford car park, arriving on scene at around 12.20pm on Saturday, June 16.
However after the 35 firefighters tested the liquid they discovered it to be a harmless cleaning liquid, and left the scene at the junction of Farnley Road and Connaught Avenue at around 2.30pm.
The London Fire Brigade said they contacted Waltham Forest Council to dispose of the drum, but the authority has no record of attending.
A council spokesman said its officers responded to a reported road traffic accident, finding some broken car parts in a bag in the car park, which they advised the landlord to dispose of.
