TWO men were arrested this morning following an attempted robbery of a security van at Waitrose in the High Road, South Woodford.
The incident happened at around 7.45am when two men attempted to rob a cash security van at the supermarket.
The men were unarmed and nobody was injured during the incident.
Police say the suspects were detained within four minutes of the attempted robbery.
Nick Cashman, 25, who lives on the High Road, was woken up by the sirens.
He said: "I could hear police going left, right, forward, all down the High Road and George Lane, just a big commotion.
"There must have been four or five of them. I thought someone had been murdered with the amount of police about."
Waitrose Duty Manager, Andy Gair, said: "We are thankful that no one was hurt and the police should be applauded for their swift action and professionalism.
"We would also like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding."
Carl Courtney of Loomis, the company which operates security vans on behalf of Waitrose, said: "We are working in close conjunction with the Metropolitan Police on this matter and are pleased with the direction the investigation is taking."
