LEYTON MP John Cryer said he is "deeply worried" by a report which found London will lose 1,400 police officers due to government cuts.

The study by the HM Inspectorate of Constabulary, which looked at the effects of Whitehall funding reductions, raised concerns about the long-term sustainability of the Met and two other forces.

Mr Cryer said: "This is deeply worrying news for us all.

"How do the government expect the Metropolitan Police to keep us safe if they keep cutting police officers like this?"

The government insist the number of frontline officers is increasing.
