A MAN from Leytonstone has been charged in connection with a fatal stabbing in Westfield Stratford City.

Michael Alvaranga, 23, of Cookes Close, is accused of violent disorder after 24-year-old Liam Woodards, of Stratford, was stabbed to death during a fight at the shopping centre on Friday afternoon (June 29).

The attack took place in a busy area called The Street, at around 4.25pm Police are now treating it as a murder.

Another eight people from Plaistow, Stratford and Victoria Docks have also been charged with violent disorder after arrests were made on Friday and at the weekend.

A venue for Alvaranga's plea to be heard is to be decided on Monday, July 9.

A 23-year-old man was cautioned for affray, while a 20-year-old man has been bailed in connection with the case.
