VIPER Central play the Birkbeck Tavern in Langthorne Road, Leytonstone, next Wednesday (July 11).

These guys, from Vancouver in Canada, play a mix of bluegrass and old-time style music.

The show starts at 8.30pm.

It's organised by promoters What's Cookin' and entry is free, although donations welcome.

Duo John Clarke and Katie Whitehouse perform at Loughton Folk Club on Thursday (July 5).

They play original compositions which range from classical guitar pieces, social commentary to 'just plain silly' songs.

Entry is £3 and it's in the Loughton Club building in Station Road.

Doors open at 8pm.

The Battered Saucepan Blues Band have a gig at Walthamstow Cricket Club on Monday (July 9).

The venue, in Greenway Avenue, opens its doors from 8pm and is free to get in.

Josh Kemp's Jazz Prophets play the same venue on Wednesday (July 11).

The show features Josh Kemp on tenor sax, Tim Lapthorn on piano, Mick Hutton on bass and Dave Smith on drums.

Entry is £5 and it starts at 8.30pm.

Simon Spillett takes to the stage at the East Side Jazz Club in Leytonstone next Tuesday (July 10).

The concert, at the Lord Rookwood pub in Cann Hall Road, will begin from around 8.30pm.

Entry is normally £5 to the club.

Dick Miles is the guest of Waltham Abbey Folk Club on Monday (July 9).

He plays lively tunes on the concertina.

Admission is £5 and it starts at 8.30pm. It's at the Royal British Legion HQ in Brooker Road.

Finally, apologies for the error in last week's Sound Advice. The Walthamstow Folk Club gig starring Pete Morton performing the Miller's Tale is in fact on Saturday July 28, not “Saturday” June 28. Sorry for the mistake.

The club is currently on a summer break.
