COUNCILLORS have expressed their anger over the potential closure of a rehabilitation centre.
Highams Court in Friars Close, Chingford, treats people recovering from serious illness or injury, but could be closed after the NHS commissioned a review of services.
A consultation on its future ended today (August 1) and ward councillors John Moss, Bernadette Mill and Nick Buckmaster have written to the NHS to complain of the downsizing of the centre while the consultation was ongoing.
The NHS said patients are being sent elsewhere in case the unit is needed to provide extra capacity for hospital patients during the Olympics, but campaigners fear it is a sign that the centre will close.
