A BAR which wants to open until 2am on dates including Christmas Eve and Boxing Day faces opposition from the council’s community safety team.

Funky Mojoe in High Road, South Woodford, has applied for four temporary event notices (TENs), one for the August bank holiday, one in October and two over Christmas.

But the bar, which is next door to the Manor Court Lodge block of retirement flats, faces opposition from residents.

Pensioners from Manor Court Lodge met with council officers to tell them of their concerns yesterday.

And today, a council spokeswoman said: “The Council has raised an objection on the grounds of public nuisance and a hearing will take place.

“Details of the hearing will be confirmed shortly.”

At a public meeting last month to discuss issues of anti-social behaviour, council leader Keith Prince said government legislation due to come into force in October would give the council more power to restrict the hours bars in residential areas were allowed to operate.

But he said:“The council will not acquire any additional powers to prevent these TENs going ahead if approved by licensing panel.”
