A LARGE Olympics-themed mural has been painted on a Leyton building as part of a community project.
Youngsters from Leyton Scouts, the Adventure Quest group, and arts organisation Soul City Arts joined professional graffiti artist Mohammed Ali to paint the artwork on the corner of Huxley Road and the High Road throughout last week.
It was funded by the Near Neighbours programme, which aims to encourage friendship between different groups in society.
The artwork includes images of the Olympic Stadium in Stratford, rooftops and a silhouette of the iconic but controversial athletes who made a black power salute at the 1968 Games.
Mr Ali said he hoped the mural would prove thought-provoking to residents in the area.
He added: “The world might have come together for the Olympics but this time last year London was a place of riots and factions, this project is a perfect opportunity to transcend class, race, and faith to bring all peoples together through art.”
