THOUSANDS of people turned out to witness the official reopening of a park following its £5m revamp last weekend.

Friends and families spent the day in Lloyd Park enjoying the restored gardens, refurbished tennis and basketball courts as well as a new playground and William Morris Garden on Saturday.

The grand reopening also featured live music, while youngsters tried out the new skatepark and visitors bought refreshments in the new cafe, community room and art gallery at the Aveling Centre in the park off Forest Road, Walthamstow.

The chair of the Friends of Lloyd Park, Adrian Stannard, said: "It was an excellent day, it was a lot of fun. The skate park proved very successful and the cafe attracted a lot of people.

"There's still a way to go, for instance the pond still needs work, but the council has done very well."

Any news on when the toilets in the park and in the William Morris museum will (re)open?

The current portaloos are grimmer than Glastonbury!

The park has been made to look very nice and credit to the people who done the work but its a shame you cant go in there and be safe as its run by the gangs of the area and will soon be a no go area once again and the maintainence of the park will rapidly go downhill as these things always do and the contractors will keep all the money for themselves and not spend it as they are supposed to for the upkeep, and as usual the workers who do the work will get blamed for poor maintainance and not the people at the top who incharge of the money.

As someone who uses the park twice a day I'd like to thank the FOLP on doing an amazing job on redeveloping the park.

Yes it took a long time and yes for many months it wasn't obvious that there was much happening but it was so worth it.

The WM gallery end looks so much more inviting and the opening up of the island adds a lot. Can't wait till next summer when the flowerbeds start blooming..

The kids play area / skatepark is a total triumph - the sheer volume of users on a daily basis is total proof off this. As for the cafe - I love the eco roof and the staff are willing to take feedbck so if you didn't like something, tell them! The filter coffee I had was decent.

Not sure what LBWF-RESIDENT is on about concerning gangs. I mostly see parents with kids, dog walkers, old people and teenagers enjoying themselves!
