THE COUNCIL is seeking entries from artists young and old for a competition to mark Black History Month.
Waltham Forest’s libraries have launched the contest as part of a programme of art, entertainment and culture to highlight and celebrate the achievements of the black community throughout October.
Residents are invited to submit original artwork, photos and poetry based on the theme Recognising the Past, Shaping the Future: What Black History Month Means to Me.
Winning entries will be selected from different age groups and will feature on bookmarks and postcards available in libraries.
The competition runs until October 31 and entries can be submitted to librarypromotions@walthamforest.gov.uk or at any Waltham Forest library.
Dozens of events will take place at libraries across the borough over the coming weeks, including children’s craft workshops, film screenings, historical talks, book readings and exhibitions.
For more information and a full schedule of events, visit www.walthamforest.gov.uk/bhm.
