WATFORD: Fine for '50 pence of puff'

A teenager with special needs has been fined £175 for possession of 50 pence worth of cannabis.

Lee O'Grady, of Kelmscott Crescent, Watford, was stopped by police in Whippendell Road, Watford, on Thursday, April 24.

Inside a small green tin they found what the prosecution at Watford Magistrates court one on Friday, described as an "unknown quantity" of herbal cannabis.

O'Grady, 19, who has similar previous convictions, pleaded guilty to possession of a Class C drug.

Catherine Dormon, defending, said the cannabis had a "street value" of 50p.

She said O'Grady, who is autistic and went to a special needs school, was fully cooperative with police while spending five hours in custody.

He lives with his grandmother, and is on incapacity benefit, but spends much of his time helping a family friend, who was in court to support him, with her dog breeding business.

In sentencing O'Grady the chairman of the bench said: "Can I start by giving you some advice. The police know where to get a soft drugs collar. Not a good place to go if you have drugs on you. This is the second time this has happened - £175 for 50 pence of puff."

Ha ha!
I have a choice of around 300 coffeeshops where I live. I can legally buy 5 grams of the strongest weed in any one transaction and I can smoke joints down the street or in the park without any police problems.
