A mother-of-two is in the running for a national award after a quirky gift turned into a booming business.

Thirty-eight-year-old Lorraine Bostoff came up with the idea for Coochy Coo Nappy Cakes when she struggled to find a gift for her pregnant sister.

Delicately wrapping baby clothes and accessories into the shape of a bouquet Lorraine found that she could make exactly what she had in mind, herself.

Delighted with the gift her sister photographed the eloquently presented bundle and posted it onto social networking site Facebook, and the business snowballed from there.

Now, 15 months on, Lorraine has won two awards for her website and is in the running for the Mumpreneur Awards 2013, a whirlwind which she says she never anticipated.

She said: “Once my sister put a picture on Facebook other people started asking me to make one for them.

“I set up a Facebook page, then the website, and within six months Amazon accepted me as an official seller. It has just gone from strength to strength.

“I was working part time in a children’s centre and they were offering redundancies, I thought I have nothing to lose so I just went for it.

“We recently moved because my business was taking over the house so that I could have a studio.”

Parcels in the shape of three tier cakes can include teddies, blankets, nappies, clothes, baby products and even a keepsake capsule and each gift can be made to order.

Boxes of cupcakes made up of baby clothes and accessories can also be purchased as well as baby grows in the shape of ice-cream sundaes.

Mrs Bostoff says that she could not be happier balancing her successful business and being able to be at home with her children.

She said: “I absolutely love it, it is difficult at times but I am really happy.”
