A family-run fish tackle shop has reopened following a seven-month closure.

Abbey Tackle in Highbridge Street, Waltham Abbey, reopened today (May 5) in a new location after closing in October as the former site in Leigh Road becoming "unmanageable" due to its large size.

The shop, which is owned by Christopher Allen and managed by partner Sarah Springhan, now offers an array of equipment for carp, match and sea fishing.

Ms Springhan said the new, smaller store aims to cater for “every generation".

She said: “The shop is aiming to cater for every generation of fishing from grandparents teaching their grandchildren to professionals looking for equipment.

“Personally I am hoping to get some women interested in fishing - there is not enough girl power.

“We aim to provide an old fashion service for customers.

“We are a small business with a large load of stock and we can offer items that the larger fishing supermarkets cannot.

“It has been lovely setting up in the centre of Waltham Abbey, we really feel part of the community.

“We believe that by opening the shop here we are bringing a bit of extra character.

“We are so proud to be reopening as Waltham Abbey has lost a lot of small businesses for reasons such as lack of trade and retirement.

“We hope to enjoy a long future here in the new store.”
