TWO rabbis were among a group of four Jewish people set upon by a mob in what police have called an anti-semitic attack.

An appeal was reissued this week in a bid to track down the attackers, who struck in Cranbrook Road in Gants Hill.

The group noticed the five young men and three young women outside Ilford Wines at 9pm on Friday, July 15, as they walked home from the Shabbat service at the North East London synagogue.

The youths followed them along a path near Valentines Park shouting and throwing stones, and when one of the group was struck he turned to confront them but was punched in the jaw.

Another was then punched in the eye and hit with a Coke bottle, a third was punched in the face, while the fourth managed to block a blow with his arm.

The attackers were aged around 17 and Asian in appearance. One was wearing a blue Nike T-shirt with the number 90 on the front.

Anyone with information should call DS Monlouis or DC Neil Bartle in the community safety unit of Ilford police on 8345 3538.
