A group that represents business is looking forward to a busy year, with plans to connect traders and inject some cash into a town centre.
In its first meeting of the year, the Waltham Abbey Town Partnership (WATP) discussed plans to link businesses with each other, as well as members of councils, the police and community leaders with networking events on the first Wednesday of the month at the town’s Marriott Hotel.
This year, a specially formed team will look into how the £10,000 grant awarded to the town as part of the government’s plan to get rid of empty shops will be spent.
Norma Green, chairwoman of the WATP, said: “We were initially unsuccessful in our bid, but our MP Eleanor Laing put in another application.
“There are some ideas about how to spend it, but we will know more after our next meeting on January 15.”
Also on the cards for 2013 is the partnership’s plan to make the town more attractive to anyone making a film or TV programme, with the launch of a DVD giving information on its history and practicalities such as where to stay and parking.
Mrs Green also told members that Domino’s Pizza, which now has a takeaway in Sun Street, had become the first large chain to open in the town centre in 20 years.
