The latest update from the Essex Weather Centre predicts more snow before the end of the week, with lows of minus five degrees.

Jacqueline Burrell, a forecaster at the Chelmsford-based centre, said this morning: “Very cold conditions persist through the week ahead, with only a slow thaw expected as temperatures will typically only reach a few degrees above freezing by day.

“Overnight, we will see a return of frost and ice as temperatures plummet to lows of minus five degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

“There are hints that milder, Atlantic weather will make a return over the weekend.

“This will likely be preceded with a further spell of snow.”
