A town’s market has been cancelled today because of the snow and ice.
Epping mayor Jon Whitehouse said the decision to close the market had been taken for “safety and feasibility” reasons.
He added last night: “It is a victim of the weather. Setting up the market starts at about 4am, so we can’t wait until the morning to decide.”
Barry Seager from the Epping Town Centre Partnership and runs a hairdresser’s in the High Street, said: “I think the market has an impact on the town centre.
“For a lot of people and for me, Monday is one of the busiest days.
“The first couple of weeks of January were very busy and the snow has really quietened everything down. Eighty per cent of my clients have cancelled, which I can understand.
“I think if it had happened before Christmas, it would have been worse, because everyone plans for the rush.”
