A church’s popular series of free lunchtime concerts has seen a good start, with an unusual band playing on Saturday.

The quintet J50 Brass played at the Abbey Church in Waltham Abbey to an audience of more than 70, as part of the Music for Lunch series.

The church’s assistant organist, Kate Macpherson, said: “They were absolutely brilliant.

“They played classical pieces and a few jazz ones arranged for a quintet, rather than solo instruments.

“We don’t normally have such large brass groups.”

In the next concert this Saturday, flutist Benjamin Copeman from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music school in London, will play classical pieces.
