A school has been forced to close after an overnight raid by thieves.

The break-in at St John’s C of E School in Bury Lane, Epping, was caught on CCTV, the headteacher has confirmed.

A number of doors were damaged and iPads taken, but the full extent of losses is still being assessed.

Headteacher George Yerosimou said: “We have closed the school and informed as many parents and children as possible.

“We hope to be open tomorrow but we are waiting to hear what the police to tell us to decide what to do next.”

School caretakers reported the break-in at around 6am this morning.

Mr Yerosimou added: “We believe the thieves were looking for portable goods and any money they could get out of the safe.”
