DISTRICT councillor Jimmy Demetriou has resigned from his position with immediate effect.
The Waltham Abbey Honey Lane ward councillor handed in his notice on March 16, it has emerged.
He had previously threatened to resign in 2007 over a long-running dispute regarding plans to turn his house, in the Crooked Mile, into a care home, but finally gained permission for that in August last year.
The Conservative councillor’s resignation does not affect the district council’s Tory majority, as it leaves them with 34 seats out of 58.
A by-election is expected to take place on June 4 at the same time as the European Parliamentary and County Council elections.
