MEMBERS of an old school network turned their social evening into a charitable venture when they raised £785 for St Clare Hospice.

The Old Buckwellians Association decided to hold a quiz night for the Hastingwood hospice at Theydon Bois Village Hall.

Compere for the evening was Phil Hughes, a senior producer for BBC Radio 2, and the profits on the day were helped by an auction with items donated by members.

The Old Buckwellians are all former pupils and teachers of Buckhurst Hill County High School, which closed in 1989.

It now has around 2,000 members from all over the world and produces its own twice weekly magazine.
