A MAN has been left in constant pain for 13 weeks after doctors repeatedly changed their minds on how to treat his wrist injury.
Scott Loveday, 32, of Mornington Road, Loughton, said he first visited Whipps Cross Hospital, Leytonstone, at the beginning of November last year after injuring his wrist through a fall.
Sent away with a splint and some painkillers, Mr Loveday said the problem only got worse and he returned to A&E four weeks later.
He said: “I saw a male doctor who said to me that my wrist was broken. He showed me the X-ray and said to me clearly that my wrist had been injured and broken.”
On a follow-up visit to a consultant two days later, Mr Loveday was told his wrist wasn't broken at all, and his cast was removed.
“I was very taken aback and confused by what had been said and what had been done especially as I was in a lot of pain and agony,” he said.
After visiting Whipps Cross for a fourth time, Mr Loveday claimed he was once again told x-rays proved he had broken his wrist only for a consultant at a follow-up appointment to deny any break was visible.
He has now visited the hospital more than half a dozen times with the latest visit confirming he has a broken wrist.
Mr Loveday is now waiting to see if his injury heals, but said he had been greatly distressed by what he had had to go through.
“I've been messed about,” he said. “I've been told this, that and the other. They're definitely mucking me about. I feel my wrist is so bad at the moment I might need a surgical procedure.”
A spokeswoman for Whipps Cross said: "Due to Trust complaint procedure, this issue is currently being looked into and therefore we are unable to provide a comment at this time."
