I am appalled that the attackers have been released on bail for such a crime,
I hope they get what they deserve.

Unfortunately, Mr Chandler, they will not get what they deserve. The law no longer allows birching.

I'm as eager as anybody to see whoever carried out this assault (which was extremely serious and given that the victim remains in a specialist neurological unit, once they are caught they should be charged with GBH with intent) brought to justice. However, let's not forget the "golden thread" of innocent until proved. The alleged attackers have been released on bail pending further enquiries presumably because there was insufficient evidence to charge them?

RELEASED ON BAIL - typical for a violent crime, now if this was for tax evasion they would be in real trouble.
