THE OWNER of a popular bar has expressed his concern for a young man who suffered serious head injuries during a brawl in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police confirm that a 21-year-old man was found outside the Speak Easy bar in Epping High Street just after 1am with serious head injuries, after having been kicked in the head by at least one assailant.

The man was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, before being transferred to Queen's Hospital in Romford, where he remains a serious but stable condition.

Three men from Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk have been arrested in connection with the incident, and have been bailed until July 5 pending further enquiries.

The bar's owner Robert Bell said: “As far as I know the guy was sitting outside, minding his own business having a drink when he was set upon by these blokes, who were not customers of ours and had not been in the bar that night.

“I wasn't there that night but my two managers didn't even know anything was going on until someone came in and told them about it.

“From what I've heard they've caused trouble around here before, apparently there's CCTV of them hanging around the area.

“We don't need people coming down and causing trouble like that, we never get any trouble usually and we've never needed any security.

“We deliberately don't play house music or anything that would attract the wrong crowd.

“Hopefully the police will catch who did this. He's a nice young lad, and all the staff and I wish him well.”

Anyone with any information about the incident should contact detectives at Harlow Police Station on 0300 333 4444.
